a beginners guide to nerdfighteria
Just a technicality: I don’t think you have to watch all of the Vlogbrothers videos as a requirement for being made entirely of awesome. Although I love Hank and John, I don’t think they’re gods who have magical authority over awesome. And maybe this is not so much a problem with this guide (overall I think it’s good), but what I see as an internal flaw in the logic of Nerdfighteria.
(you know, coming from the person who makes perfectly logical, not-crazy-at-all comics)
I was told when I joined that I had to watch al videos, and although I don’t regret doing so, I do think there was a few videos worth skipping.
Well, people have different opinions about what you have to do to be a nerdfighter. I mostly stick to Hank and John’s general statement of “if you want to be one, you are one.” They have emphasized that point a lot, in response to people questioning whether they can be considered nerdfighters. And I don’t remember Hank and John ever saying that people have to watch all their videos (maybe they did, but I don’t remember everything they said).
They never said you have to watch all their videos but I’d say you should take interest in the community and stick to the ‘proud nerd, fight for awesome, decrease suck’ mentality if you really want to call yourself a Nerdfighter. It’s not as simple as going around saying ‘I’m made of awesome’ that’s just arrogant.
George Takei describes the moment when he and his family were sent to an internment camp.
So after WW2 America decided to do a Hitler.
A very good way of going about explaining this issue. It’s good to see something positive come from Tumblr.
HOLY SHIT. THIS. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TELL PEOPLE. SHUT YOUR MOUTH ABOUT MEN VS WOMEN. @_@
Yes! Stop making it about opposition, it should be about cooperation.
My dad would tell me that when we were little and people would say to him “wow, four daughters, that’s a lot of weddings to pay for” (because traditionally the bride’s family would pay for the wedding), my dad would respond with “well, we’re hoping at least one of them will be gay so we can split the cost with the other bride’s family”
He said people never knew how to respond
